General Discussion / Livestream work-around?
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:16:06 AM »
Visit from IWBTS came to check if our stream was offline. He mentioned that their streams were also down, but they found a workaround using XSplit.

Just thought I'd post this in forums in case any streamer wanted to try to play with it and see if he or she could save the day.

My favorite is Gyarados, but I love Haunter. That's because it is only one letter away from my real name. Marowak is also always cool, as with Beedrill and Arcanine.

Chaunter? Shaunter? Shaun Ter?
Haunder? Hauster?
Xhaunter? HaunterX?

Sambo Already picked kadabra, and so I guess I should pick a different pokemon even though Alakazam is my favorite
I choose Magikarp
because Magikarp was so hard to level and made you feel so accomplished for finally getting him evolved into an amazing Gyrados, Thank you for the feels Magikarp, thank you.

Not Solrock?

My absolute favorite is Farfetch'd. There is no real reason as to why, one day I just all of a sudden decided that Farfetch'd was my newest, and most favorite of Pokébros.

Edit: Since then (Gold / Silver version), I've made it a point to actively use Farfetch'd in every game and competitive tournament. I've also used Shadow Farfetch'd to dominate the Emerald version contest and am working on collecting 1000 Farfetch'ds, one from a different trainer each, to fill my Pokemon Ranch.

I fucking love Farfetch'd. It is most unfortunate though that Farfetch'd can not be named though :<

General Discussion / Re: SWAGTAGS STORIES (explain your username)
« on: October 17, 2012, 03:43:55 PM »
When I was much younger, I was really into writing stories. Seriously into writing stories. Like, 329 main characters in one setting, into writing stories. I started using my main character's name for anything that I registered online for (to this day, it's still my main e-mail account), but then one day my father  started playing Dark Ages of Camelot and decided to use that name. Being a little kid, that name was forever ruined by this fact, so I ended up shifting to another one.

A lot of people preferred to call me Ciel instead of that full name though, so I typically keep it that way on forums or the like since Ciel is, in itself, pretty difficult for a lot of people to pronounce already, French included. I had no idea that it was French at the time, nor did I know I would eventually become anime characters.

I just want to comment and challenge you, that this game will probably never be finished.

I've been a part of a community called BYOND for a while, until it died out around 5 years ago. Basically people would sound super enthusiastic about making a game have a team and then it would poof after a while once people realize actually how long of a process making a game is. They'd either abandon the project or rush something shitty out that wasn't enjoyable(very shittyly done and poorly designed. Level scaling is a huge one) and would die soon after. The IG RPG is a good example of that atm that's pretty much how a lot of games would end up. I've seen a lot of people's games start and fail, and been a part of many alphas and betas as a result.

Now I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, just motivating you to know how many people have tried and failed. So when it doesn't come out not to be surprised. I was an icon(or sprite if you want to call it that artist) for a lot of games that just kind of poofed, because shit comes up and people lose interest. Hopefully knowing these facts you'll finish it just to spite me or to prove it to yourself that you can. If you do then I've done my job well. ;3

Unfortunately this. I've been on a few teams for game makings that have died as well. Not that I think this is a bad idea to try of course, but you'll need to find people who are capable and willing to devote the time and stay devoted to the project. For instance, f your key contributors feel like the whole project is a fun side project, then they'll participate with decreasing levels of frequency.

I haven't kept up with Ultimo's project at all, but if it's openly available then you might want to consider using what he already has. Similarly, if you decide to abandon the project later due to personal reasons or something, someone else can work on what you have and keep the project going.

Also, consider keeping your initial opening post with the most up to date information about things you're considering and have already decided. You can spoiler it and preface with, "See here for game info," or something, so it makes it easier to see what things have already been considered with relative ease for new and repeat visitors.

I promise I'm not trying to piss in your Cheerios, Toast. I'd like to see this happen too, but I think it's important to know what to expect as the project develops. And shit, if half the awful games that exist on Steam can successfully be developed, I'm certain we can come up with something good.

General Discussion / Second Annual IG Meetup Thread!
« on: October 16, 2012, 12:15:10 AM »
HEY GUYS I'M GLAD WE DID THIS HUEHUEHUEHUE

I am too, that's why I'd like to try for a second IG Meetup. I know short term notice is a problem when you're asking people to cross the country/countries; therefore, if there is enough interested in it, I'd like to get a definitive plan prior to December. This way, we can transition from planning to actualizing, and drop the cash for reservations and itineraries.

So what's the deal? An IG Meetup. An opportunity to meet with the streamers and chatters who make up our fine community of well-mannered gentlemen. Depending on how many people are interested and willing, perhaps we can get together for a period of time and just hang out, casually playing video games, board games, card games, watching movies, or whatever. It really depends on the venue, and really depends on you.

More than a show of hands of who is interested, I'd like to know what options are available. Last time, it seemed that Texas vs Seattle was essentially the debate. It boiled down to trying to attend the Penny Arcade Expo, or getting drunk on the beach down in the Padre Islands area. I'd still like to hear more opinions though, as the member base has changed somewhat noticeably. We still have some time to play around with the idea, but the longer we wait, the harder and costlier it will be to make it happen.

Some of the information from the previous thread, edited for brevity:

~Krunch, I'd like to know if that offer would be available again?

Also, if our glorious IG overlords would like to consider it, I'd like to propose an idea to cover the costs. I assume IG doesn't make a tremendous amount of money from donations, and probably would not be able to contribute much. Previously, Durka asked for those who were unable to make it to consider donating. Would it be possible to try to do some sort of commercialization? Like making IG shirts or hats or dragon-dildos or something? That way, people could still help to organize the meetup, but receive some sort of physical reward in addition to the warm fuzzy feelings. It would also give the meet-up'ers an identity if we decided on attending some sort of convention. Or stroll about Costco.

Really, I took two separate photos and merged them together. I wanted the lines from one image just to have something to really highlight the "Insomniac Gamers" logo, and then the anime character to make the image itself stand out more; here is what I had prior to changing the colors of the bars and adding little star things.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

What I really want though is any advice to make it stand out more. The point of it is to post in threads so that people recognize it, and it will stand out among the other thousands of images already posted. If I have to start completely over with an entirely new idea to accomplish that, so be it. Really though, it's just something that people will hopefully look at and go, "Oh, its those people." In a good way of course!
